When I came out west, I attended a ton of different Churches. I was in Las Vegas for a period and one Church had about 3 elderly Priests. They sat in the pews as the Deacon did the Mass.

Another Church claims to have a Deacon "couple." This is in LA. What the heck is a Deacon "couple?"

My parish back in NY, we had a Deacon.

I'm hoping it is a Deacon and his wife is a very involved lay minister. I'm hoping its not two Deacons...

I asked and it is a Deacon and his wife.

I have zero clue as to why this term is needed and if she participates in any degree as a deacon helper during mass.

It is stuff like this that makes no sense and confuses the congregation.

If it is not fighting off the hand holding or kneeling when others are standing or Priests giving up their duties to the lay people, etc.

Just this Sunday attended another Church and the Priest and altar boys stood behind the altar holding hands, 4 in a row, saying the Our Father. Blood just about spurted out of my eyes.

Yeah there is a parish in my diocese where a lay woman serves at the altar while the deacon just stands there uselessly. There is confusion in many parishes. All we can do is pray and discuss charitably how things should be. And try to keep blood from spurting out of our eyes when lay ministers self-communicate and the priest makes up his own Eucharistic prayer.

There is no confusion.

It isn't like the Pastor's or Priests or Bishops were adrift for years without any reference material.

This is bending the mass to please a few lay people. The Church and its parishes are treated like a political free for all. It is this ego that is destroying our houses of worship.

Catholic schools teaching religion 3 days a week instead of 5. Stressing "spirituality" over devotion to the religion as well as full understanding.

Either the Church will fall under the weight of this or it will stand up and defend the teachings, the traditions, the rock.

Things su[i][/i]ck really bad. Believe me, you don't have to tell me about it. But the Church will not fall under the weight. She will contract, she will shrink, she will purify, she will find her roots and fan the coals that burn with the heat of 2000 yrs truth and tradition...but she will not fall. I am fully confident in the younger priest God has sent us.
