One is the above which is both worrying and sad the other was a"good news" story about the first democratically elected president of the largest Islamic country in the world and how he often defended the freedom of Christians.Gus Dur to his credit sought peace with the Islamic rebels in Banda Aceh and always supported the religious freedom of Christians. In times of crisis, the possibility of terrorist attacks against churches, he urged members of his Muslim organization, the Nahdlatul Ulama to promote protection and vigilance, to defend the Christian communities. Thanks to him the Nahdlatul Ulama has become the most important (and largest) Islamic organization, open to dialogue with other religions. No one sought to comment on this "good news" story but got all in a lather about the above. I just wonder
I didn't see that one
Absolutely! Just look at that cake mix mess in 2005 where some Danish newspaper posted cartoons of Mohammed and Islam. I bought this up because apparently some Muslim people broke into his house yesterday and tried to attack him or something. That artist got death threats. Or when the Pope quoted someone from centuries ago saying that Islam bought nothing new, just violence to humanity. And then there were images of Muslims with signs saying "Kill those who say Islam is violent!!" How many Catholic jokes are we privy to? How many crass movies and dirty cartoons do we see? A lot. How many of us Catholics load up our shot guns and go on a rampage because someone tells a dodgy priest joke? If people had a sense of humour, if people just laughed, if people just allowed freedom of speech and didn't get so sensitive to things, the world would be a nicer place. I spend a lot of time on American based forums simply because there aren't a lot of local ones for me to bellyache or annoy upon. I've come to notice that Americans in particular, are quite sensitive. You decide what and who hurts your feelings or what annoys you or what makes you so mad you go flammin' up a storm! What society really needs to do first is get rid of this politically correct BS. Seriously, they've done studies on it, if you have at least ten good "belly laughs" a day, you live on average, 7 years longer. Its good for your heart and circulation and your brain releases all manner of "happy hormones", it lowers stress of yourself and those around you. And really, patients in hospital who have a good laugh, they get better faster. Of course, "Whoever said laughter is the best medicine obviously didn't have sphyillis"
jonyelmony
My girlfriend family (who are Catholic) had a maid in Indonesia who is muslim and she was Indonesian and she was physiclaly abused when she worked in Saudi Arabia so I would suggest that it is likel to be a fact of life for Asians in Saudi Arabia or maybe even more basically those who work as help. I wonder how many supposed Christians frequent the Bars in areas like Angeles City or even ar complicit as customers of women from all over south east asia who have been brought to the West by Human Traffickers.
