It's what you're having... Moosey told me.

As long as I can spread it on crackers like last year's famed potted meat product. Or as long as I can put little slices of it on crackers. Spam for the win this holiday season. And nobody best be dissing our customs.

We're not Italian, but my mother always makes a homemade spagetti sauce because she makes it really good. I haven't been home to eat it for the last five years, though. I'm gonna ask her to freeze some for me for when I go home. My father usually cooks pork with rice and beans. With my mother I celebrate on Christmas day, but with my father it's on Christmas Eve.

We would have steak and potatoes every Christmas Eve in the evening. Then, we would pray the Holy Rosary and open our gifts. We stayed awake long enough to attend Midnight Mass. Christmas day was very festive, as we would open up the bags of sweets that our Aunts would bring us, as well as the gifts our many guests would bring throughout the day. My mom would have something simple out for everyone, hams and cheeses and crackers and wine.
Ever since mom died, we have had to change our traditions...
Now we all gather at my brother's house (he's a chef.) he makes us a beautiful meal. Every Christmas it's been different. So, I'm not sure what he has in store for us this year...
...things are just really not the same, and I'm still not used to it...but it's getting better!

Christmas Eve is an open house at my place anytime between 7pm and 3am.
Menu is as follows: ham, cheesey potatoes, green bean casserole, shrimp, pasta salad, spinish dip in a bread bowl, fresh veggies and dip.
Desserts are orange cookies, pumpkin log and cheesecakes, served with punch, hot apple cider or pop.
My daughter requested a cheeseburger pizza and potato soup, she arrives at noon Christmas eve
People wander in and out all evening, usually after church.
Christmas Day, whenever we get up is leftovers, usually John and I are finishing up the shrimp :)) We exchange gifts when enough people wake up to drag the rest of them out of bed.

What are your family's traditions in regards to meals on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day? Do you have ham, roast been, turkey, or salmon, or something else? Does anyone have a large meal following Midnight Mass?

We decorate our tree on Christmas Eve and have sort of a buffet dinner with like pigs in a blanket and sausage balls and chicken nuggets and finger food stuffs. Then we always have a big Christmas Day brunch with lots of yummy food, and chili for Christmas dinner. Wow I'm hungry just thinking about it!

We have a big End of Fast meal at Church after the Divine Liturgy (Midnight Mass). Usually about 1:30 a.m. I eat lots of meat and anything with butter.

Some of you have some pretty chill traditions! I like! Christmas eve, nothing special really. Christmas day is when we have some sort of meat and potatoes and vegables and get out the silverware.

Yes, we do! Usually it's a 1:30-2:00 am feast- a massive meat based roast- as most of my Catholic family fasts in Advent. We have a late big brunch on Christmas day.

However this year I'm in the UK and my in-laws are coming over. None of them are Catholic (atheists, Muslims, and other Christian denominations) but a few of them really enjoy coming to midnight Mass in EF, so we are doing a small fish-based meal for them after Mass and a big roast for everyone on Christmas day.

We're having traditional English roasts with all the trimmings, goose with cranberries, some African food, some Filipino food, and some Italian food (I make polenta, cannelloni or lasagne- and panettone of course).

Today the kids and I are making our presepe (nativity scene) out of gingerbread. We also have a roast on St Stephen's day and it's pretty much open-house to friends, neighbours etc on that day. Really looking forward to it now! :)
