Of course, birth control is intrinsically evil, so it doesn't apply here.
I agree. But there are those who view Catholic teaching on birth control to be an opinion. And, well, to quote Winchester: There are those who might not consent to water treatment. They can go live in the wilderness. This is the problem with democracy--you people get the idea your personal opinions matter.

But Catholicism isn't a personal opinion.

It is, though.

Apparently the only place flur. can go in the human body is the teeth.

Here's a little story for you guys:

When my brother and I were younger our town flurd. the water. Then there was this big debate and they decided to stop. Just around the time my younger sister was doing the whole teeth development thing.

My brother has perfect teeth, no cavities, I had perfect teeth (Antibotics did a number on mine in under a year) and my sister, well, she was getting fillings in her baby teeth. And we all had the same diet with very little sweet stuff. And interestingly, all the people I know, who were developing with flur. water have great teeth, and those who grew up after it was removed, have less then perfect teeth.

They're actually discussing putting it back into the water supplies.

We are exposed to plenty of pollutants , chemicals, toxins, cosmetics, perfumes etc which all can and do have serious side effects. Listen to the warnings on every new "health" product touted on TV commercials, and those lists are just all they know of at this time. The article posted by Nihil Obstat, I love this nic, is very interesting and truthful. In an age where we get news like Autism now affects one in every hundred children and they have no idea what actually causes it, we have plenty to worry about without all the additives that can harm us. What to do? Who knows.

I think that's the problem with all major Western socities. We just don't demand clean water ways. And then there's the fact people are just lazy and will pour anything down the sink.

Gotta watch those things, a lot of those morons are trying to sell something.

In all liklihood its due to increased diganosis ability rather then an increase in the numbers.

Back in '94, at the age of 12, I was diganosed, (finally!) with dyslexia. Apparently it was "very rare" back then. A few years ago, my cousin was diagnosed dyslexic at the age of five. And now, its apparently quite common, so in just over a decade, the ability to diagnose dyslexia has increased. And dyslexia, autism and aspergces (sp) are related.

But I'll tell you something for nothing, when people start blaming vaccines for causing increases in Autism, its not too funny, and its down right dangerous. A friend of mine lost her child and her fertility due to not being vaccinated against MMR because her parents read some rubbish study about MMR causing autism. She went on to contract the disease during pregnancy and was told at 30 weeks she would have to be sent across to Aussie to have an abortion because we dont' have the services for over 24 week abortions, she was Pro-Life, refused, and her very, very deformed and sick child was born, early, and died a horrible death, my friend suffered a major bleed and needed an emergency hysterctomy. All because her parents refused to vaccinate.

Its the child who suffers from not being vaccinated, not the people who are refusing it.

Not really off topic, but yeah.

Nihil Obstat

One of the people who was a major contributor to the debate in the link I posted is my former Statistics professor. :) He's a complete jerk and probably shouldn't be allowed to teach, but he's also very smart.
I do wish however, that I'd never met him. :P

Wrote an article at Dateline Zero about this topic. http://www.datelinezero.com/?p=1894

I stuck with the topic that fluoride may or may not be harmful (I don't think it is in small doses, from what I read). But the issue is rather, government shouldn't have anything added to other people's water when it has nothing to do with water purity.

It's a power over other people that should be in the first place -- and it leads to a bad place, regardless of how good the intentions are.

I quoted from a professor (of bioethics, no less) who made a recommendation to the British Government on adding fluoride to water. The guy goes well beyond teeth in his article:
Fluoridation is the tip of the enhancement iceberg. Science is progressing fast to develop safe and effective cognitive enhancers, drugs which will improve our mental abilities. For years, people have used crude enhancers, usually to promote wakefulness, like nicotine, caffeine and amphetamines. A new generation of more effective enhancers is emerging modafenil, ritalin, Adderral and ampakines and the piracetam family of memory improvers.
My FIL refused to hook up to city water b/c of the fluoride. My in-laws still use well-water, although if they ever sell the house they'll have to pay a few thou to connect to the city supply.

I grew up with a well, too, but got fluoride treatments at the dentist every 6 months (gel in a styrofoam shell. Yuk) I have had relatively few cavities, but my hubby and all his sibs have had major dental bills over the years. Go figure.

Geeze ... someone just pointed me to this, from BBC News:"Drinking water which contains the element lithium may reduce the risk of suicide!"

Let's just mass-medicate people, shall we? It'll stop the private class from complaining.

have you ever read a short story by Stephen King that deals with medicating people through the water supply? the name of the story escapes me now, but basically the plot revolves around two brothers, and one is a genius and invents this 'medication' that will make everyone happy. downside is that it also makes everyone very very stupid (as in slobbery, drooling, stupid).

great story.

edit: It's called The End of the Whole Mess. and the chemical causes dementia.
