Crazy, you are talking about statute, not objective morality. And your tone is arrogant. Stop.

Excuse me, but not only did you ask about statute, but I answered your question when I was under no obligation to do so.

What about their families?

Do the families of doctors keep getting paid when they die? Engineers? Guys who attach the plunger to the level in toilet factories? (Life insurance and things of this nature non-withstanding.)

As am I, though not in the world of print text.

Sternhauser, you said on the first page that you are not a published author, later editing it.

They often do get pensions. That is of the same nature.

"I am willing to wager that you have not, either" is not stating that I am not a published author, nor a statement that I make my living from what I write.

This is more often associated with retirement, widows and disabled people.

To their workers? Frequently. To the families of authors? No. They will often pay in full, or a portion of the amount agreed upon. That depends on the contract they worked out.

Typically violations of copyright result in fines, not jail time, which is the only physical force I could imagine you are referring too.
[/quote]

Just for clarification, yes, while this is most often the case within the context of copyright law as a whole, not so with duplication and distribution in the specific context of digital media.

Where does the money come from to pay an author when their book is read?
