As a matter of fact, there is a flourishing community of Zoroastrians in India. The conductor Zubin Mehta is from that community. They are known as Parsees, which is to say their original home was Iran [Farsi is the language spoken in Iran]. I don't know much about their beliefs, however.
Yes, I made a thread a thread about Zoroastrianism as well. In general, Zoroastrianism can be said to be monotheistic, though, like Islam, it gets many things incorrect about God.
It's a reference to the Magi, who were almost certainly Zoroastrians. They were warned by an angel to not respect what came out of King Herod's mouth, and "went home by another way," which can be interpreted, beyond the literal sense, as a subtle way of saying that they had converted, at least in part, to the worship of Christ, who is "The Way, the Truth, and the Life." They came as Zoroastrians, and left as changed men. They were truth seekers. James Taylor told the story quite beautifully in a deeper context, in his song "Home By Another Way." Brings home the problem of trying to claim "the things that are God's." Home By Another Way by James Taylor Those magic men the Magi Some people call them wise Or Oriental, even kings Well anyway, those guys They visited with Jesus They sure enjoyed their stay Then warned in a dream of King Herod's scheme They went home by another way Yes they went home by another way Home by another way Maybe me and you can be wise guys too And go home by another way We can make it another way Safe home as they used to say Keep a weather eye to the chart on high And go home another way Steer clear of royal welcomes Avoid a big to-do A king who would slaughter the innocents Will not cut a deal for you He really, really wants those presents He'll comb your camel's fur Until his boys announce they've found trace amounts Of your frankincense, gold and myrrh Time to go home by another way Home by another way You have to figure the Gods saying play the odds And go home by another way We can make it another way Safe home as they used to say Keep a weather eye to the chart on high And go home another way Home is where they want you now You can more or less assume that you'll be welcome in the end Mustn't let King Herod haunt you so Or fantasize his features when you're looking at a friend Well it pleasures me to be here And to sing this song tonight They tell me that life is a miracle And I figured that they're right But Herod's always out there He's got our cards on file It's a lead pipe cinch, if we give an inch Old Herod likes to take a mile It's best to go home by another way Home by another way We got this far to a lucky star But tomorrow is another day We can make it another way Safe home as they used to say Keep a weather eye to the chart on high And go home another way http://www.lyricsfre...y_20069229.html ~Sternhauser Edited December 12, 2009 by Sternhauser

Antigonos
Classical Persian Zoroastrianism posited that there was a principle of pure evil [Achriman] and one of pure good [Ahura Mazda], represented by darkness and light [fire] in cosmic and eternal battle with each other until the End Time, when Ahura Mazda would prevail. It also had a very rich demonology which entered folk tales of many societies. Zoroastrianism had a rather profound influence on a number of other religions, over time. Certainly certain concepts were syncretistically adopted into Judaism, as the later prophetical writings show, and various forms of early Christianity were also affected -- nearly all the dualistic heresies such as the Albigensian were strongly affected by it. I don't know whether modern Zoroastrian thinking has changed in any significant way. Joseph Campbell's "The Masks of God: Oriental Mythology" [and possibly the next volume in the series, Occidental Mythology, as well] deals with the subject.
The northern North American indians probably never heard of him, but some of them mirrored, in a sense, the teachings of Mani, too. Called the "manitou," ironically. Everything had a spirit, to the Algonquin, including inanimate beings. The Great Spirit (Gitche Manitou) warred with the bad manitou. The main (mani) point is that there was a good manitou, and a bad manitou. ~Sternhauser
