Crispy
I once heard from a friend a story about Maximilian Kolbe. Roughly, the story goes that he buried a miraculous medal on the property of a Masonic Temple and "cursed it in the name of the Lord". About a week later [or whatever the actual time frame], the place burnt down. I was initially surprised at this idea of someone (esp. a saint) "cursing" anything. My friend, who I regard as rather knowledgeable in theological and spiritual matters, said all "cursing in the name of the Lord" is is to ask for God's right judgment to come upon something. From my knowledge of sacramental theology, it almost sounds like a sacramental blessing with a twist. Can anyone confirm this story? I know Maximilian Kolbe led a great crusade against the Masons during his lifetime, so that aspect doesn't surprise me. Besides whether the story is true, can anyone offer thoughts on the concept of "cursing in the name of the Lord"? Does it sound legit? If so, is it something that should just be left to super-awesome saints, so that we don't have terrible judgment fall on our weak selves? Is it something we should put into practice more often against places like abortion clinics? Pax et Bonum, Crispy
Guest Jon
I would love to know who MK is and what years he lived and in what country. Is his name commonly known to Catholics? Sorry, I'm out of the loop - but will follow this thread. I love learning new things. God bless, Jon
MissyP89
Max Kolbe is pretty well known, at least in the circles I associate with. http://saints.sqpn.com/saint-maximilian-kolbe/

Is that similar to Jesus cursing that tree, and then finding it whithered away later on?
Crispy
I never thought of Jesus cursing the fig tree. That seems to be evidence for saying that it can be legit to curse something in the name of the Lord. Maybe Jesus is allowed to because He's God though...what about us? Veridicus
The high school I attend, named "Mater Dei", is having their Christmas Dance at the local Shriners (a Masonic Sect) Templehall. Kinda a sick irony. Maybe someone will drop a rosary and the place will burn down another day.

Freemasonry is evil. Maybe at least you can keep there from being any other functions there in the future. I know that it's on the back of the miraculous medal, which St. Maximilian spread devotion to, but is there more to it than that? I want to know, because I had it built into the engagement ring that I'm giving my girlfriend in a few months ...
Crispy
All I've heard it called was a monogram, but that's a generic term.
mommas_boy
All I know is that it calls to mind Mary's participation in the Sacrifice of Christ, and our reception of Her as our Mother, given us by Jesus, at the foot of the Cross.

[/quote] Oh my gosh! Yes he totally he is, one of my favourite saints! As for cursing in the name of the Lord, the other day I stumbled upon something in the Bible about it, (not that part with Jesus), but I can't remember the verse. I've heard of a few people doing it, but not so much out of human anger, but rather God's judgement. Like, against an abortion clinic et cetera. But regardless, I don't think it should be done lightly, given the power of the Lord. However, I have asked the Lord, that if it His will, to curse the building of an abortion facility, and not the people who do them.
