sounds intense. Glad you're on our side now. :topsy:

it was. One of them thought JPII was the false prophet of the Book of Revelation. Jews rule the world and the freemasons have taken over the Church, Novus Ordo is invalid, VII and recent popes teachings are null, no books to be read written after 1960, Latin Mass is infallible, and so on and so forth.

oh the horror. I had a lot of self-annihilating to do and basically had to restart from the ground up about six years ago. But all in all I also did learn a lot of valuable things from them, yet not the true spirit of the Faith. That is for sure. Better to live a simple Christian life then to get messed up with heresy and schism. Trust me. Luckily God is Mercy, He saw that I was sincere and naive and being led seriously astray so he rescued me from them in a weird way in spite of my overwhelming stupidity and badness.

Might I inquire, or is it personal? :)

My parents were never religious, so I really didn't know much about my own faith, at all. I was always interested though, so when I had access to more resources as I grew older (library, internet), I really tried to soak in a lot of info.
I really learned a lot from Catholic Answers especially (and other online resources and books too).

I went to a Catholic school my entire life, the religion classes were pretty good but it was only helpful if you already were well informed about Catholicism, it's a nice addition and helps enrich learning, but otherwise, it's confusing and you find yourself memorizing the textbook & passing the course without really understanding much.

I got involved with people like that when I was in high school. Thankfully, the prioress at the Benedictine Sisters of Mary Queen of the Apostles set me straight when I visited the community. They're one of the rare non-schismatic communities which offer the tridentine mass.

Okay, was this a built in joke of yours or is there really a "like" feature now?

It is inspiring to hear a story of someone who came OUT OF radical traditionalism. It seems like the Church only loses members to these groups...usually very orthodox individuals who just snap and can't take the all-too-common aberrations and sadly-weakened episcopacy and almost complete absence of catechesis. Its an utter travesty because in most other respects these people were previously the type of parishioners which the Church so desperately needs to be witnesses to orthodoxy.

I want to a four year Catholic High School. I was not too surprise that my friend does not know the Hail Mary, even though she was in Catholic School till, I think, 2nd grade. My family prays the Rosary one night, then we do not day it for awhile.
As for my faith, I know the Catholicism, but I want to know on how to defent the Catholic faith with my follow Catholics.

I made a promise to God to go where he asked me to go and do what he asked me to do.

And I would try to whine as little as possible.

This sounds extremely familiar...

It does?

Hi elizabeth 09, I'm not sure if your question was directed at me.

Yes, ja.ime's statement about learning the faith because of a promise made to God is something that resonates with me.

I was raised Methodist, but in 1980 I began to question aspects of Protestant teaching (e.g., sola fidei, sola scriptura, etc.), and in order to gain some theological clarity I began studying the writings of the Church Fathers, which eventually led to my conversion to Catholicism in 1988.
