Good Friday

Hey guys!

I just wanted to invite y'all to participate in the Paschal Fast with me, which is a water only fast from the Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday until after the Easter Vigil. My parish priest explains the Paschal Fast in this way:

"One of the most ancient traditions of the Church is the fast from the Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday evening until after the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday. This is a complete fast for those who can do it -- only water. The idea is that the ones coming into the Church and eating of the Supper of the Lamb for the first time at the Easter Vigil should be hungry for the higher things. I will be doing this fast and invite you, if you are able, to accompany in solidarity all the new members worldwide who are coming into the Church at the Vigil."

So I thought I would post this same invitation, especially for new converts who may not know about the Paschal Fast, but also for other Catholics who want to accompany them.

Thy Geekdom Come

Wait...I meant to say no...

I'd like to, but I can't because the seminary requires us to be at a Passover-like banquet on Holy Thursday

Good Friday
Benedict asks:
So does that mean that the fast ends Midnight Easter Sunday?
My understanding is that the Paschal Fast goes from the Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday until immediately after the Easter Vigil Mass on Holy Saturday, not until midnight on Easter Sunday. Of course, you could fast until midnight on Easter Sunday, but I don't think that's a requirement of this fast.

But my understanding is that the Paschal Fast goes from the Mass of the Lord's Supper tonight until the Easter Vigil Mass on Holy Saturday, when the catechumens and candidates are able, for the first time, to receive Our Lord in the Eucharist . . . and we fast until then, in solidarity with them, so that we can affirm with Jesus: "Man does not live by bread alone . . ."

I hope that clears that up.

Glad to see so many people are going to be doing this! And props to everyone else who is fasting in some other way.

I'm doing okay...I did eat a small sandwich for dinner, and a little something for breakfast. I plan on eating breakfast tomorrow, and then staying away from food till after Mass. Thank you so much for posting this idea!!
