Phazzan
I started smoking as a 17y/o, and I feel the habit is very bad for my health. When I'm at uni and I'm stressed a smoke relaxes me temporarily, and I can't really get through about 8 or 9 hours of study without a one or two in between. When I'm not smoking (and exercising) I feel much healthier but then study gets hectic and I find smoking is the only way to deal with the stress, even though deep down I know it doesn't. It's a dirty habit, and even though I'd like to quit, I'm only half hearted because I don't mind the occassional social cigerette when I'm out with mates. I know the health risks involved, but I just can't seem to find the motivation to quit. Of the four people in my RCIA group who are either getting baptised and/or confirmed, three of us are smokers, and I think it reflects Catholics in a bad light. What should I do? theculturewarrior
I smoked from an early age, on up to about the age of 24 or 25. As a result, I developed asthma, could have developed emphysema early on or maybe even lung cancer. (I know, I'm young, but such things are not unheard of). My spiritual director told me just how important it was for me to stop smoking. He made it my number one priority in my struggle against sin. I haven't smoked since, and have been feeling much better because of it. I recommend that all smokers quit. It really isn't that hard to do, and the positives far outweigh the negatives. If you can go three days without a smoke, you can go for the rest of your life.
Sojourner
I've tried smoking off and on, but don't really like it. It's expensive, and smells funny ... but I do enjoy smoking a pipe every so often. Usually I do it on Sunday nights while I'm doing dishes or cleaning.
DemonSlayer
I would never smoke.
fatima513
I started smoking again almost a year ago. Mostly out of stress and depression, but now I'm gearing myself up to quit again for good. My only plus is that I only smoke outside so I don't stink up my house and car. It is a very bad habit to have, besides the health risks it is quite expensive as well. A pack of cigarettes here costs about $7.50 now. And since Bloomberg keeps changing the smoking laws and soon we won't be able to smoke anywhere I may as well quit. 4HisChurch
While I have never smoked, I sometimes dream that I am smoking... The only explanation I can think of is, that my mother smoked when she was pregnant with me...
PedroX
I started smoking when I was 23. I had always wanted to, and when I became an adult I did. No biggie. peace...
Mrs. Bro. Adam
While I have never smoked, I sometimes dream that I am smoking... The only explanation I can think of is, that my mother smoked when she was pregnant with me...
I had a dream once that I was hanging out with some of my old buddies, smoking...I woke up and had to ask my husband if I had ever smoked!!! He told me not that he knew of. LOL I've never smoked... I'll be bold and say that it's a very destructive disgusting habit and noone should smoke, ever. But...that's my opinion. I personally smoking as mistreatment and disgrace to our bodies, the temple of our Lord.

Pio Nono
JMJ 4/7 - Spy Wednesday If the body is a Temple of the Holy Ghost, shouldn't we incense it every so often? Personally, I only smoke when offered a cigarette. If I become a priest, I'll be ministering to a bunch of farmers and day laborers who may feel offended if I turn down a cigarette because I'm unable to smoke it. Also, every once in a while some of us seminarians go to a smoke shop down the road and smoke cigars.
Iacobus
I will never smoke. My friends do and the smell makes me want to puke. I don't have problems with pipes as much, they don't smell that bad (it smells almost good) but it doesn't look like fun to me. I get my kicks off other things (PM, music, movies, reading), not smoking.
popestpiusx
I absolutely love to smoke. Mostly a pipe, occasionally a cigar, and sometimes Lucky Strikes. :pipe: :smoker: Famous Catholic Smokers: St. Pius X, Blessed Pier Giorgio, Blessed Miguel Pro, Hiliare Belloc, JRR Tolkein, Evelyn Waugh, GK Chesterton
PedroX
PSPX, I knew you were cool. I actually have my own smoking room. Surrounded by my books and fine art, there's nothing better than a smoke, a glass of port, and good conversation. peace...
Pio Nono
JMJ 4/7 - Spy Wednesday Well, Evelyn Waugh is a special case...Evelyn Waugh always was a special case, if one knows much about him. Still a good Catholic late in life, though.
popestpiusx
He was a good Catholic most of his life. He entered the Church on September 29, 1930 at 27 years old. This was after a rather rough decade of his life which included a nasty divorce. But from the point of his conversion on, he was brutally Catholic.
