He seems incredibly naive to me. Not like someone who needs to be in American spotlight. From a music standpoint, I've heard 20 seconds of his remake of "She Bangs", and I don't even know how to comment on it, it's that bad in my ears. <_<

Yeah, voiciblanche, William Hung is an aweful singer, but there's something so darn entertaining about his singing and dancing. I think most Americans appreciate people who aren't afraid to embarrass themselves in front of crowds. It certainly take a lot of courage.

But for some reason this is different. I keep trying to convince myself that if the kid is smart of enough to maintain A's in civil engineering at Cal Berkley that he has to have the presence of mind that understand that America actually thinks his singing and dancing is one big joke. However, I must admit that I believe Mr. Hung suffers from a bit of social and cultural ineptitude, and that those pushing his fame are guilty of not-so-subtle exploitation.

I bought his mp3 on iTunes and today and it makes me laugh every time I listen to it...and now feel guilty. Have I sinned?

Here's the question, though:

Does William Hung really believe that he has vocal and dancing talent?

He is making a TON of money because of all of this! He has the last laugh. The only sin is that I didn't think of it first.
That is assuming he is not naive enough to be taken advantage of on the buisness side of things as well.

He is naive to think he is at least somewhat musically talented, that definitely leaves the door open for him to be naive enough to be taken advantage of in other ways as well.

Yes (at least singing). He said so on a program on him on the Fuse network that we saw the other day, called "Idol Worship" or something like that. It was an interview conducted with him.

I just found another interview with him:

http://www.dailycal.org/article.php?id=13978

Hung, who has sung karaoke for most of his life but never had professional training, said the audition [American Idol] inspired him to improve as a performer.

“My singing wasn’t horrible, but my dancing really made it look silly,” Hung said. “It’s not like I’m a horrible singer that can’t sing. But I don’t have the consistency or the presentation skills that a good performer has.”
