I knew a guy just like him in college. He was into cheerleading though, and not singing. He ran around campus with flags and would stop and do cheers in front of people. Everyone on campus knew who he was because he was loud and had no shame, although he was quite innocent and just loved doing these obnoxious cheers. They would humor him and laugh at him and invite him to do cheers at talent shows and other events. But they set it all up so they could laugh at him. Seeing Hung makes me think of this guy, and its sad, it makes me really really sorry for him, and angry at those who are exploiting his innocent nature. Have you seen the new music video he's in? I was watching a short special on him last night and the poor guy is completely naive and sweet, and they are sticking all these non-clothed females all around him and dressing him as a pimp. I think its just sick.

At least he's having a go, and I think that's why most people respect him. He's being used though, but I don't necessarily think it's all for a big laugh. Most people actually like the kid.

I agree. Most of reality TV is exploiting people, in my opinion.

Also, people will do anything for entertainment, whether or not it exploits someone else...kinda like ancient Rome...

Exploitation is a two-way street. This guy is choosing to act the way he does, and he's DEFINITELY taking advantage of his 15 minutes of fame. The guy is parlaying it into some lucrative deals for himself, which is very smart of him. Whatever is behind the public's interest in him -- whether it's exploitive in nature or not -- he is using it to his own advantage. Let's not paint him as an innocent bystander propped up as an object of national mockery. He has purposefully taken steps to put himself in this position.

That's a good point. I guess what I object to more, is, shows that purposly exploit innocent people who have not asked for it...

Personally, I think it perpetuates negative stereotypes of Asians. This is sad. You hear more about this guy than the two Filipinas that are still on American Idol and are very talented.

The author, himself, is asian, and he was quite riled by Hung.

cmotherofpirl,

He is making a TON of money because of all of this! He has the last laugh. The only sin is that I didn't think of it first.

I think the writer is being a little oversensitive.... I laughed *hard* when I first saw his performance. But once I saw that DJ's were doing remixes of his song (and I do that for fun sometimes as a hobby) - I jumped on the bandwagon too.

He is a terrible singer. He is a terrible dancer. People are making fun of him (while at the same time, patting him on the back and telling him how great he is). I think that is a sin.

But I wasn't laughing any longer. I had respect. Respect enough to try as hard as I could to make my remix decent. He did his best, I thought I should do the same. My best - even if it isn't "popular quality" or whatever.

I think the final comments he made to the American Idol judges summed it up really well. "I did my best. I have no regrets at all"

I think that is exactly what he was doing. His best.

His best was all he could give, even if it wasn't very good.

The dude is now singing at sporting events (see picture below)

Here is where the remixes are:
(mine are toward the bottom of the page, since I sent them in a long time ago)
"Mix it Up Hung" - MLFG (My Life For God)
"Don't Give Up Hung - ElectricDisk.com
