dominicansoul
i wouldn't be surprised if people still feel the need to explain his actions in a different light, even with him confessing it was an act of terrorism... look at what the obama administration is doing about the 9/11 terrorists---they are giving them a "fair trial" even if the master mind has already confessed and even asked for the death sentence...
For some reason, the United States panders to Muslims. By calling Hasan out for what he truly is, this would apparently upset the entire Muslim population. Even though Hasan is being singled out, of course, it would still be offensive and seen as an attack against Islam.
is there a thread on the 'U.S. trials for the detainees' story? I couldn't find one and I figured someone would have started one. My question is that if we hold Constitutional rights to be inalienable, then why is it that we would allow the government to deny them to someone merely because of their citizenship status? Wouldn't everyone deserve those rights to be recognized under the constitution?
Obama believed the Club Gitmo residents could not get a fair trial in military tribunal, so he arranges an American civilian trial for the mastermind of 9/11 in New York City. NYC is the venue! Glad Obama was so concerned about fairness. Of course, we know the trial has two purposes: 1. Satisfy the gullible part of his electorate that bought his rationale. 2. Put the Bush government on trial. Hasan will be subject to the rules of a court martial. I wonder if the ACLU has contacted Obama about getting a fair trial for Hasan. Hasan, an American citizen, will have fewer rights in a court martial than the 9/11 mastermind, a non-citizen and enemy combatant. It's probably best the military throw the UCMJ out. Ideologically, we believe that everyone deserves a fair trial, despite what crime they are accused of committing. It's why both a traffic ticket and murderers get the same attention in court. However, we've lost our way because we let emotions cloud our reasoning. Fortunately, the constitution didn't add "only if we feel like it" to the end of any of the articles or amendments. CatherineM
The trial should be an interesting one. I'll bet Pat Lopez gets the call to do the court room drawings since no cameras will be allowed.
KnightofChrist
The detainees' are not citizens of the Untied States, they are not civilians. They are enemy combatants or prisoners of war. Either way they should face trial in a military court, not civilian. This is a most ridiclous and dangerous, they will in effect have an open mic to the press. And could easily let off on a technicality.
