vee
Hmm so women should wear the veil as a skirt and use the pants to cover the head?!

Aloysius
but that sweater is exposing her armpits!!! I will point out that though things like abortion and contraception and all that stuff did exist prior to 1910 (what's so significant about 1910?) and such, before the 20th century they were never as common as they are today, and that's not just because they "weren't talked about". I think social historians would say that statistically extra-marital sex, contraception, and abortion has exploded in the twentieth century (particularly after the '60s)... but I don't know of any serious person of intelligence who would argue that this is because of pants. missionseeker
On a related but slightly off topic note, yesterday I was looking at skirt webites and such and I came across this one post on a blog that a girl posted who said " As a Christian I believe the Bible tells us not to wear pants, and for me that includes leggings, pants and tights under skirts. Sheer hose are OK" How does that work? (it was talking about keeping warm wearing skirts in winter. It's kinda strange that hose are fine and tights are not? If they were tan would they be ok? Or what? Anyway... Carry on...
Marie-Therese
I veil at Mass. I have worn said veil with pants. I managed to escape God's wrath and no one smote me whilst in the church. I often wear dresses because they make me feel very feminine and modest, but I don't feel some kind of gross Divine disapproval if I wear a pair of feminine, modestly cut pants. Logs and specks. HisChildForever
+J.M.J.+ yes, i did. and phatmass did not blow up, as previously thought. i'm so dead serious. this women posited that up until 1910, when women started wearing pants and you could see between their legs, that was the start of the moral decline: contraception, and abortion, etc followed. that if women want to reclaim their dignity, that women should wear skirts/dresses. in our discussion, (it was at Bible study), we did talk about the fact that more modesty is needed in our society. then we discussed veiling at Mass. she said to me "well, why veil (cover up) your head if you are going to expose your crotch (by wearing pants)?" needless to say i was a little upset and retorted with "and do you know what i wear to Mass?"
In all honesty, it is easier to see up a woman's skirt than to see through her pants. Even if the skirt is long enough, a strong wind can turn modesty into immodesty. Furthermore, men have more to expose in terms of the crotch area, so perhaps this woman should take that into account the next time she thinks pants are immodest on a woman.
I came across an odd, similar statement from a protestant blogger recently that said "I have not yet drawn any conclusion as to whether or not the Bible requires [veiling] of women... I recently concluded that the Bible does indeed command that women wear long skirts or dresses (not pants)..." Seemed kind of odd to me. I mean St. Paul says pretty clearly that women should wear a veil (although of course I'm not denying there is legitimate debate about whether that always applies)... but nowhere does scripture say anything about pants. So I mean, how do they come to these clear cut conclusions?
