I knew St. Francis. St. Francis was a friend of mine. You, sir, are no St. Francis.

Not saying he didn't, but he was a vegetarian...

lol

From a Zenit Daily Dispatch interview with Fr. Luigi Iammorrone
—Q: There are those who say St. Francis was vegetarian.

—Father Iammarrone: Whoever says this, has read nothing of St. Francis’ life. In early biographies one reads that St. Francis said that if Christmas was on a Friday, the friars should be given a double ration of meat, and animals a double ration of hay, out of love for the Lord, who was born for us.
I think I'll stick with the late Father Iammorrone on this one, he had the credentials.

Good idea.

I find it strange that many people want to portray St. Francis as a flower child of the 1960s.

Me too. It sort of cheapens his message, in my eyes.

As far as being a manly thing, well I have to disagree. My wife loves fishing. We live at a lake, and she'll often go down to the shoreline and fish. I'll stay in the house reading or watching a good movie. However, my rule is, you catch it and keep it, you clean it, but I'll cook it.
I'm the cook in the house. However, she hasn't brought anything home as of yet.

I didn't say it was something that women don't like or even love to do...

but traditionally in every native tribe i've ever heard of, men were the hunters/fishers and women were the gatherers... there's something manly about going back to your roots and hunting/fishing yourself rather then going to wal-mart.

That's quite unmodern of you. It's all the rage to pretend that there are no typical gender roles. Also, the Kennedys are awesome and approving of pro-abortion legislation is okay. You are such a neanderthal!

This merely is merely a general statement that St Francis made for the Friars, not himself.

The fact that St Francis lived a life of strict poverty, would suggest that he didn't eat meat, because
in his day, eating meat was a luxury.

Also, many of the Franciscan monastic orders as well as other religious orders, are vegetarians.

However, as I stated earlier in this thread, their not eating meat had to do with mortification and a spirit of poverty.
