It could be also that we're so used to seeing these animals as endangered or animals like them as endangered that we're more prone to find it very wrong to hunt such animals. Again, I would feel differently about the killing of such an animal if it were done by a tribe or tribal person and it was necessary for their food supply. Most tribes have sources of meat though such as goats, pigs, or cows that they use for their meat supply. It's probably very rare that they kill an exotic animal (at least of the large breed variety) for food.

I'd have to agree with you.

You know what I find very silly? The people who protest the seal hunts in northern Canada. Unless you're a "meat is murder" vegetarian, there is NO case for opposing seal hunting, which has been traditional for northern First Nations people for thousands of years. It would be very wrong to force them to stop that.

At the end of the day, hunting for food is just the 'circle of life' in action. We are the most efficient predators in the world, and there's nothing wrong with using the skills we've developed to find food. :)

I remember one January many years ago after the furnace started to die- it ran continously, my bill was about $800 for one month. The croutons of it was we were still cold.

Besides the cost factor, I'd argue that hunting meat is far more humane than commercial meat production. Unless we're talking free range, which is most common around me. :)

Chicken houses are some of the saddest things I've ever been in. I know with some large poultry companies when chicks hatch they'll identify the sex of the chicken and keep the hens but kill the little rosters. Some plants also do egg candling and can identify male or female then. If it's male the egg is disposed of.

its the baby seals most people object to.
Why should baby seals be more protected than adult seals?
I mean, if you're hunting a sustainable number, and ESPECIALLY if you use most, or all of the 'waste products' for other things (as the First Nations people tend to do), then I see no problem with it. Even if they're really really cute.
Obviously you want a certain size of seal, or else it's pointless.

Yummie!

We always had farm fresh eggs growing up. My aunt raises chickens for the eggs. I should start getting eggs from her again since little man can now eat them. Farm fresh eggs are the best! They taste soooo much better than the store bought mess!

I did a little research on the amount of meat a person would save by hunting, if they are successful.

A mature buck, of 180lbs, that just the carcass, the head, skin and intestines are removed, yields
about 71lbs of meat. That would be a good size deer.

http://www.butcher-p...products_id=331

The average person in the USA, will consume 222lbs of meat per year. This is domestic farm types.

http://www.hsus.org/...onsumption.html

So, if you manage to get that deer, you've saved one person of the family 3.126% in the amount of meat they would've had to purchase otherwise.

WOW!

Of course that would also have to mean the deer meat wasn't too gamey.

The fact that hunters donate so much to deer meat to food-banks, suggest they're not eating much of what they kill, and do it more for sport.

Good try. That's almost 32%.
31.981981982%, to be precise. :saint:

Get three deer, and that's all the meat one person needs in a whole year. For an average family, that really takes a chunk out of the grocery bills, considering meat is one of the pricier items they'll regularly buy.
