¡Alabado sea Jesucristo! Okay, I've been meaning to post this for a while! So some time ago when I was doing all that research trying to find that Spanish painting in the other thread .. and found that little video of a First Profession at the Monastery of the Incarnation in Avila, I ran into some others from the Monastery of St. Joseph in Avila too! the first Carmel of the Discalced reform (and by the way, I've already shared this with IntheArmsoftheLord, so she wouldn't be rushed in watching the videos and everything before her entrance :j)

I was super excited just to have found them!! They were all in Croatian and seemed to be about a young woman from there who entered here and was now making her Solemn Profession. Neat! But then I found a longer version (the whole thing, 1/2 hour) of the same documentary on youtube, which included a few more interviews and scenes of her as an actress, interesting .. I googled her name and found a whole bunch of articles on her. She was a famous actress in Croatia who left a successful career to follow Our Lord and enter Carmel .. much like our Dolores Hart. Here's a little translated wiki page on her, Edita Majić (one syllable, Maisch)

Articles from '04 when she entered ..

And a news clip ..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JWcfzyup84

An interesting quote from one of the articles there ..

Why did you decide to join the strictest solitary place, and to a monastery in Spain? In our country there are four Carmelite monasteries and one in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

"Reflecting on this calling, I observed many orders in the Church, but I was most attracted to the spirituality of Mount Carmel. I read the writings of many Carmelite saints, especially St. Teresa of Avila and St. John of the Cross. The monastery to which I go is a special place as it was the first foundation of the Discalced reform. And it and some other monasteries in Spain live under the original rules establish by their foundress. This monastery is the motherhouse from which all of the other (Discalced) Carmels come throughout the world. However, after the Second Vatican Council, Carmel, though still strict, softened its rules. But, the Monastery of St. Joseph, along with a number of others, received permission to return to the original rules, which is a very demanding lifestyle. There are no such Carmels in Croatia. And, as I felt the Lord called me to a complete denial, I just chose the most rigorous way. I always did everything in my life to end. So I cannot see why not now."

And 2008, when she made her Solemn Profession ..

So I shall post the documentary next, as there's not enough room here! It's all in Croatian, but still so neat to see! I know some Croatians so maybe some day if they'd be willing to help me, I could upload these with English subtitles, if I can figure it out. But this will have to do for now. It is so neat they made this and it was on Croatian National TV! Oh and in case anyone wonders, in a few of those scenes where they show her on stage, in some suspended in the air, she is playing the part of Ariel in Shakespeare's The Tempest. That was one of her last shows. In one of the articles she said she thought of the angels while she was up there!

i'm going to check all these out tonight. Croatia is such a special place. I tend to really like the people who I discover are from there, example my favorite pianist is from there, also my favorite priest. Plus I privately believe in the Medjugorje apparitions. I know not everyone does, but I started to follow some of the goings on there. God has really blessed these people recently, and they in turn teach us by there example.

Thanks for posting!

I love that last video of her too! :saint: And I love the double grilles here and in the parlour, although I had never seen those spikes on the outside grille before! :o (25 seconds into the first video and throughout) It doesn't look like the Incarnation Carmel in Avila has them .. nor any other 1990 Carmel I've seen pictures of .. interesting ..

By the way, a little recommendation for watching the 1/2 hour documentary here .. let them all load first, and it'll be easier to get through with all the interviews and everything. I can't wait though to sit down and watch this with a Croatian friend who can interpret for me!

very solemn hymn there, by the way .. Dies Irae .. the Carmelite vocation is definitely a serious one though with their mission of praying for priests and the salvation of souls ..
