Pontifex
Alleluia come from a Hebrew word that means "Praise God". At the liturgy/mass, it is repeated as an expression of joy and celebration. During Lent we omit the Alleluia as a way to communicate that we are in a season of penance. In a special way we are entering into penance and sorrow as a way of uniting ourselves with the Passion of Jesus and to prepare ourselves for the Resurrection. (Easter) We die with Him so that we may rise with him. Of course, penance is always a part of the Christian life, but in a corporate way we do it together during Lent. Peace, Fr.
